MTCES has eight spaces dedicated to its four kindergarten homerooms. Each of our four teachers has a traditional instruction classroom and a room for centers. Two full-time aides assist homeroom teachers throughout the school day. Every MTCES classroom features a SMART Board Interactive Display and a frequency-modulated (FM) system to help all students hear the teacher’s voice clearly. Kindergarten classrooms are outfitted with sinks. Learning center classrooms provide kindergarteners with hands-on learning activities at a variety of themed stations designed for small groups including math, literacy, handwriting, and listening.
Classrooms in the primary wing (grades 1-4) provide ample space for a class of 25 students typically seated at tables until grade four when they use desks. Like all MTCES classrooms, those in the primary wing feature SMART Board Interactive Displays and frequency-modulated (FM) systems. Teachers utilize a carpeted reading circle for story time, religion lessons, and discussion. Shared cubbies for students line the wall. Homerooms are typically self-contained until grade three when students switch among grade level teachers for various subjects. All primary wing classrooms are outfitted with sinks.
MTCES is committed to bringing first-rate STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) to students at all grade levels. The school has received the Governor’s Thomas Edison Award for Excellence in STEM Education and Student Research for 13 years. Hands-on science curriculum begins in kindergarten, but students in grades seven and eight have access to a state-of-the art science lab.
MTCES has a full computer lab and all students attend technology class once a week. MTCES is a Google School: students have access to the full GSuite of apps—Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc. The school has a 1:1 Chromebook program for grades 5-8. All 3rd and 4th grade classrooms have full sets of Chromebooks. Kindergarten through grade two classrooms have access to Chromebooks.
The Sister Anne Schulz Student Center is comprised of a gymnasium with two sports courts, a fully functional theatrical stage, and a kitchenette. In addition to participating in phys. ed. classes and sports in the center, students also eat lunch in the space. School masses, student body morning prayer, theatrical/music performances, fundraisers, and other special events also take place in the center.
