Amanda Ocariz has been working with Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School since the 2005 school year. At that time, Mrs. Ocariz was the first 7th grade teacher; teaching math, English, and reading. As the school grew and restructured, she became an 8th grade homeroom teacher and the MTCES junior high English and reading teacher. In August 2013, Mrs. Ocariz accepted the position of Assistant Principal at MTCES, while still co-teaching junior high reading with Karen Geiger. For the 2016-17 school year, she has returned full-time to the classroom. Prior to working at MTCES, Mrs. Ocariz graduated from Miami University with a BS in Journalism and Economics. After teaching and coaching track and cross country at Marian High School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Mrs. Ocariz went on to Kent State University to earn a Masters in Education. Mrs. Ocariz, along with Mrs. Geiger and Mrs. Austin, have won the Governor's Thomas Edison Award for Excellence in STEM Education; she was designated by the state of Ohio as a Master Teacher in 2014; she is a ten-year member of NCTE; she played an integral role on the MTCES accreditation committee; she acts as the BETA sponsor, the junior National Honor’s Hociety; and her current graduate studies includes work in the area of curriculum and leadership.
